Why I Love Writing on 750 Words
Why I Love Writing on 750 Words – And Why You Might Too
There’s a simple daily habit that can transform your clarity, creativity, and even your mood: writing. Not polished writing, not something you’ll publish, just private, unfiltered journaling.
The idea comes from Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way and her famous “morning pages.” The practice is to write three pages every day, about anything that comes into your mind. No editing, no censoring, no worrying about spelling or structure. Just a brain dump. Over time, it clears mental clutter, helps untangle stuck thoughts, and can even lift a heavy mood.
I discovered a website that makes this practice easier, and I’ve been hooked ever since: 750 Words.
Here’s why it’s special:
Completely private and secure – Your words are yours alone. No “publish” button, no comments, no pressure. Just a password-protected space where you can say anything without holding back.
No need to blog or perform – Unlike writing on social media or a blog, you don’t have to come up with clever titles, tags, or polished content. It’s not about impressing anyone. It’s only about showing up for yourself.
A gentle daily challenge – 750 words equals about three pages of writing. It’s enough to push you past the surface thoughts and into what’s really on your mind. The site tracks your word count as you go, saving everything automatically, so you can relax and let your thoughts flow.
Fun motivation – Each month you start fresh with a new streak. Write a little, earn points. Write daily, rack up more. It’s surprisingly motivating in the beginning, but soon the joy of the practice itself takes over.
Insights into your mind – The site even shows you stats about your writing, how fast you type, the emotions in your words, the themes that pop up. It’s like holding up a mirror to your thoughts.
Simple but powerful – In the end, it’s not about the bells and whistles. It’s about showing up, writing your 750 words, and feeling lighter, clearer, and more creative for the rest of the day.
I can honestly say that building the habit of writing daily has made a difference in my life. Some days my words are messy, some days they’re inspired, but either way, it feels like giving my brain and heart a fresh start every morning.
If you’ve ever wanted a safe, structured way to journal and reconnect with yourself, I highly recommend giving 750 Words a try. No affiliate links, no agenda, just something I believe can change your life as much as it has mine.
“While all writing on 750 Words is private, that doesn’t mean we have to be completely anti-social! Share more about your writing process, ask questions about what works best for others, and celebrate milestones with other private journalers around the world.” ~ Buster Benson, Co-Founder of new.750words.com
Notes of inspiration from members
The rain is pouring down, the thunder is crashing, and I just wrote my millionth word on this site. A few of those million words were inspired. Many were a slog. And a lot of them were angry – this site being the only place where I feel allowed to be angry. Good luck to all 750 Worders out there, whatever your word count, and many thanks to Buster and Kelliane.

Wow! 100K words! Writing helps clarify thinking when you’re struggling and miraculously I’ve found is connected to improved physical health when we really write about our stress as a daily practice, not trying to solve it just getting it out. So keep rocking the daily writing and cheers to your next 100K!

This is the first time I actually completed a one month challenge, and I have to say: I *am* proud of this and it feels more like a “Badge of Honor” than a Turquoise Horse. I do love the creative and witty badges which I have seen evolve over the years and I for me this kind of gamification did push me to keep writing. Now for the first time 30 days in a row. I have joined 750words.com way back in June 2013. It took another 12 (!) years to show up regularly which means 2025 has already become “The Year of the Badge” for me: The badges I earned so far: – My Anniversary on 4 June, sparked by the (not so) new 750words *and* the community announcements – Oxalis for showing up for 100 days just 12 days later – **Spirit Phoenix** another 5 days later—which really pushed me to continue this time around – **The Hefty Tome** which came as a *hefty* surprise only another three weeks later. So here I am and will continue to write as it has really helped me get through the recent separation from my wife. Next stop: The Phoenix. Happy writing y’all! Cheers from Berlin
